Why
do we need so many new
homes in the Reading
area?
New
homes are required
in the Reading
area to meet local
housing needs and
to address the
current imbalance
between the number
of jobs available
locally and the
size of the resident
workforce. As the
Reading economy
continues to grow,
a failure to provide
more housing locally
will encourage
long distance commuting
and further house
price inflation.
This
scheme was put forward
and rejected in the
early 90's why should
it be any more
acceptable now?
This
scheme
is very
different.
The earlier
proposal,
which
was put
together
by a
smaller
consortium
of landowners,
involved
building
on the
meadows.
We propose
to keep
them
green.
What
will the houses look
like?
There
will be a range
of innovative,
contemporary
designs incorporating
high environmental
standards in,
for example,
energy efficiency.
The scheme will
comprise a mix
of dwelling types
and sizes set
in high-quality
landscaped environments.
Many properties
will be adjacent
to lakes.
Where
will residents go for
shopping, schools,
libraries etc?
The
development will
include schools,
doctors surgeries,
dentists, local
shops and other
facilities.
Attractive and easy public
transport links will be created
through to the existing communities
within southwest Reading
in order that new links can
be established and to enable
new and existing facilities
to be shared for the benefit
of all.
Will
local people be able
to afford to live at
Kennet Valley Park?
The
development will
provide a range
of housing types
and sizes to
cater for a broad
spectrum of needs.
A proportion
of affordable
housing will
be included within
the scheme.
The
site will be
investigated
thoroughly to
determine what
important wildlife
areas and species
exist within
it.
Only a small proportion of
the site will be developed.
The remainder of the area
will be managed to achieve
an appropriate balance between
the needs of recreation and
nature conservation.
The development will also
be designed to integrate
into its environment and
to protect and enhance any
valuable habitats that are
found.
