The three main elements of the scheme are:

• The construction of a sustainable new community with up to 7,500 new homes as well as supporting community services and facilities
• A flood management scheme, devised by experts, which will improve flood protection, not only for the new development, but also for those living in the surrounding areas and in central Reading itself.
• A commitment to the long-term protection and management of the meadows.
